Finding The Best Campsite

Campsites can be ad hoc or organized. But there are some considerations that need to be taken into account before you commit to a camping site. Here we look at the art of selecting one that suits you.
You can’t pre-order a suitable campsite. It may suit some tents and campers but it won’t suit everyone. However, there are some basics that you should be aware of before you set up your tents for the night.
A campsite can mean two different things. First there is an organized campsite with facilities like running water, toilets & showers, and maybe even a shop and laundry. The bigger the site, the more facilities and the louder the night – so if you don’t like noise steer clear. Large sites may offer bar or entertainment facilities, which can be noisy at night. If this level of noise appeals, this type of campsite will suit, but if not select a quieter maybe smaller site.
The second type of campsite that you will come across is a site that you choose to pitch your camping tents, which is not an organized campsite. This could be a field or open plot of land.If it is a field, the farmer needs to give permission. Don’t assume you can camp there – many farmers dislike campers and may become angry if you make assumptions about their land.
The middle of nowhere is lovely and quite, but can be short of water supplies for washing and drinking.Bottled water is fine, but don’t forget about water. You also need to consider toileting. A pub nearby is rather nice but always remember the need for toilets!
Pitching your tent in a valley may cause you to be flooded out. Also be careful of water – lakes, rivers and canals can attract rats and insects.
Taking all this into account, make choices that are right for you and you’ll have a successful and comfortable stay.
